Arlington Artists Christmas Exhibition

The Arlington Baths Club has many fine artists as members.

Join us for the opening of the Arlington Artists Christmas Exhibition from 6pm on Wednesday in the Reading Room.

All original work is for sale and at least 50% of the purchase price will be donated by each artist towards the renovation fund to improve your club. Join us at the opening party night for a free glass of fizz, a nibble or two and maybe even the ideal Xmas present!

The exhibition will run from 12 – 6 pm until Monday 12th October.

The club would like to thank or local gallery, the Annan Gallery – 164 Woodlands Road – for their assistance in mounting this exhibition.

Fine Food Night – Friday 4th November

Tom Shields’ is having another fine food and wine night in the club on Friday 4th November from 5.30pm onwards.

On offer is an international selection of mouth-watering treats inspired by Tom’s culinary trips around Scotland and Spain.

Just turn up anytime after your swim, gym or steam and enjoy good food, good company and the chance to fundraise for your favourite club.

Oktoberfest comes to the Arlington’s bar this Friday to raise money to restore the rings and trapeze! The lovely Tom Shields is on the case with German ham hock and sauerkraut, belgian moules, indian chicken curry, spanish garbanzos and espinacas, chickpea and spinach. Sounds delicious! Though we try to give members as many channels as possible to communicate with the board this is the formal opportunity to let have your views heard. See you in the Reading Room on the first floor at 7pm.

Arlington Supports Glasgow 2014’s ‘Sport Your Trainers’ campaign

Members of all ages at the Arlington Baths Club are supporting Glasgow2014’s ‘Sport Your Trainers’ campaign. On March 14, Commonwealth Day, everyone from business leaders, schoolchildren to politicians and doctors will be encouraged to ditch their normal footwear and wear their trainers for the day in support of Scotland’s Commonwealth Games.

Competition- 6 months membership to be won

To enter, all you have to do is visit the site and send in your answer to the following question to the email address provided: What year did the Arlington Baths Club first open its doors?

The competition closes on Monday 28 February. Winners will be chosen at random from all the correct answers received. The six month prize membership needs to commence within 60 days of the competition closing. Participants will receive an email notifying them of the result.

Learn to swim/improve your swimming technique at the Baths

The Arlington Baths in Glasgow is delighted to announce the arrival of the William Young Swim School. The Swim School will take place at the Arlington every Friday afternoon, with group or individual lessons available to all.

Arlington Chairman Gordon McDougall said:
“We are delighted to welcome William Young, a very experienced swimming instructor, to our Arlington family. People have been learning to swim at the Club for 140 years and the new Swim School will help us keep up that tradition.”

“In addition, this new facility is available to both members, as well as individuals and groups of all ages from the local area, ensuring that the Arlington remains an integral link within our local community.”

The William Young Swim School has built up an excellent reputation since it was established six years ago and provides lessons across various venues avross Glasgow and the West of Scotland.

William Young adds: ”Although I teach at many venues, I am absolutely delighted to have the opportunity to provide swimming instruction to people of all ages and stages at what is believed to be the world’s oldest surviving swimming club.

“I look forward to being part of the team taking the club forward for the next 140 years.”

Indeed, these are exciting times for the Arlington, with an number of events planned to mark its 140 year anniversary. In the run up to the 2014 Commonwealth Games, the Club remains a real asset to Glasgow, retaining the mantle of the country’s founding Victorian Swimming Club.
